Teacher Training Videos March 2011 by Russell Stannard

Hi folks
It is going to be a busy month. I have trips to Swtizerland, Italy, Turkey and of course IATEFL Brighton. So if you are going to attend any of my talks, please come up and say hello.
a) For All teachers
http://www.teachertrainingvideos.com/march2011/index.html
This set of videos has 10 great websites and includes some real gems. It includes a tool for showing your screen to anyone else in the world who is sitting on a computer with an internet connection and a really easy tool for downloading videos from youTube. Some of these sites are only for ELT teachers but many of them can be used by ANY teachers.
b) For ALL language teachers
http://www.teachertrainingvideos.com/magnets/index.html
The amazing Word Magnets is back. It is now downloadeable which means once you have it on your computer you won't need an internet connection. This tool is AMAZING and is great for any language teachers.

The amazing Bubblr and Bookr. You can make books and cartoon strips using the millions of pictures from Flickr. These are both amazing tools and can be used in so many ways. Watch the videos and I think you will really like these tools. What I like is the quality of the results and the millions of pictures that students can work with.

c) For all ELT/ESL teachers
http://www.teachertrainingvideos.com/elllo/index.html
ELLLO is the biggest listening site of content for ELT/ESL that I have found on the internet. You won't believe the amount of content there is here and it includes listening, videos, quizzes, tests, downloadable files etc. It is huge and the videos take you through all the important stuff.

Blog of the month
If you don't read Nik Peachey's blogs then please do. Nik finds loads of great material and suggests great ways of using it. He shares all his work and over the years he has been a great inspiration to me. I often dip into his blogs and many of the sites I show you were originally found by Nik.

"Someone Like You" by Adele

I've heard that you're settled down
That you found a girl and you're married now
I've heard that your dreams came true
Guess she gave you things I didn't give to you
Old friend, why are you so shy?
Ain't like you to hold back or hide from the light
I hate to turn up out of the blue uninvited
But I couldn't stay away, I couldn't fight it
I had hoped you'd see my face
And that you'd be reminded
That for me it isn't over
[Chorus]
Never mind, I'll find someone like you
I wish nothing but the best for you too
Don't forget me, I beg, I'll remember you say:
"Sometimes it lasts in love, but sometimes it hurts instead"
Sometimes it lasts in love, but sometimes it hurts instead, yeah
You'd know how the time flies
Only yesterday was the time of our lives
We were born and raised in a summer haze
Bound by the surprise of our glory days
I hate to turn up out of the blue uninvited
But I couldn't stay away, I couldn't fight
I had hoped you'd see my face
And that you'd be reminded
That for me it isn't over
[Chorus]
Nothing compares, no worries or cares
Regrets and mistakes, they're memories made
Who would have known how bitter-sweet
This would taste?
Never mind, I'll find someone like you
I wish nothing but the best for you
Don't forget me, I bet I'll remember you say:
"Sometimes it lasts in love, but sometimes it hurts instead"
[Chorus]
Sometimes it lasts in love, but sometimes it hurts instead, yeah

It's not my cup of tea!

Every language has wonderful and rich idioms - those groups of words that have a special meaning that is different from the ordinary meaning of each word. For example, 'to kill two birds with one stone', do two things with one action.

Dear Prudence - song and movie activity

I prepared a questionnaire by Survey Monkey http://www.surveymonkey.com/ for learners to take. It is for pre-intermediate levels above. The text is a cultural note about the song "Dear Prudence". At the end of the survey, click on SEG and there will be an answer key to the exercise.
